THIS WEEKEND AT THE CITY MARKET

July 5-6, 2008

What better way to celebrate Independence Day weekend than by grilling and relaxing with family and friends.  Stop by the City Market to stock up on all your ingredients for a fun filled weekend to remember.  The City Market also makes a great destination for family and friends visiting during the holiday.

Perhaps the most diverse destination in the metro area, the City Market is great place to taste Kansas City's "local flavor" or watch the world pass by on one of our many outdoor restaurant or cafe patios. Whether you are looking for beef to grill or baked goods to end your meal on an
especially sweet note, the City Market is the place to find what you need.

Tomato Festival This Saturday!
City Market Tomato FestivalThis Saturday bring the family and join in the fun of the second annual Tomato Festival.  With recent concerns surrounding tomatoes, know that you can shop with confidence when purchasing farm fresh tomatoes in all shapes and sizes at the City Market.  Now is a great time to load up on your favorite variety of tomato to freeze or can so you can enjoy the flavors of summer all year long.  Grilling out for the Fourth of July weekend?  There will be ripe tomatoes perfect for your picnic needs.

While at the City Market shopping, watch as local contestants compete in our second annual salsa contest.  The contest will begin at 10:00 a.m. in front of the 105.1 JACK FM tent.  You can also take part in many festival activities:
  • Salsa dancing by KCSalsa.com
  • Live musical performance by the String Beans
  • Tomato putt-putt, know the cans and a tomato toss game
  • Recipe sampling with the University of Missouri Extension Office
  • Wonderscope art tent
  • Storytelling by Mother Nature
  • Much more!
Kids can also enjoy the moonwalk, pony rides and a barrel train ride around the market.  These activities are usually available every Saturday, weather permitting, for a small fee.  Activities at the market make a great photo opportunity for the family, so bring your camera or take a snapshot with those hand cell phones for a fun memento of your visit to the City Market.

Don't Forget Those Less Fortunate Harvesters Logo
